It was only made for 2 years 82 & 83. Yamaha XZ550 Vision. Mine is an 82.

Just around the block. It has a real interesting sound to it. Almost Ducati like. I guess a 10,000rpm over square V-twin has to sound cool. It rides like a brand new bike.

Just keep checking the classifieds but don’t be in a rush. If you wait for the right one you’d be amazed at the deals you can find.

I bought this for about 1/3rd of what its worth.

1982 was a banner year for Jap bikes. Honda had 51 models! Yamaha had plenty too. You had 3 v-twins—Seca 400-550-650 turbo + non turbo-750-900—Maxims in all those sizes and more I’m sure I’m forgetting. This thing was just a bit too different. It was kinda too small to be a tourer (although I think there was factory fairing kit for it) and it wasn’t as fast as the other 550's. I seem to remember these sat around and ended up getting dumped dirt cheap in 84-85.

I still haven’t written off the other one. Once it’s fixed I might go check it out and see from there what I’ll do. Might have 2 bikes in my stable or maybe I’ll flip one of them.
